Skrap Pack Mission MMA

Mike Peltzer: Owner, Head Coach & the Guy on the Mat Every Day

Mike Peltzer founded Skrap Pack Mission and has been its head coach since day one. If you've taken a class here, you already know him! He's the one who was there when you walked in, and the one who's still there when you leave.

Mike's path in jiu-jitsu took him further than most. He traveled to Rio de Janeiro and trained on the mat under Dennis Asche and Roberto "Gordo" Correa, one of the most respected lineages in the sport. Gordo, widely credited with revolutionizing half guard, shaped Mike's foundational understanding of positional grappling in ways that still show up in how he teaches every class. Mike also trained under Mario Sperry, a Chute Boxe legend and one of the most technically complete grapplers of his generation.

Back in San Francisco, Mike became part of the Skrap Pack family through Gilbert Melendez and has been a core part of the Gracie Fighter team for over a decade. He has competed at every belt level, always testing what he was learning against real resistance. Gilbert awarded Mike his black belt which is a reflection of both the technical standard Mike holds and the trust built through years of training together.

When he's not coaching, Mike loves to surf at Ocean Beach. Anyone who's paddled out at OB in winter understands the mindset: calm under pressure, comfortable being uncomfortable. It shows up on the mat.

At Skrap Pack Mission, Mike runs the BJJ program and sets the tone for the gym. His teaching philosophy is simple: understand the why, drill the how, test it live. No shortcuts and no ego.

The gym is here because Mike is here. Come find out what that means.
