BJJ & No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Classes in San Francisco
Skrap Pack Mission offers BJJ and no-gi jiu-jitsu classes in San Francisco's Mission District for all levels: from complete beginners to active competitors. The program is led by Mike Peltzer, a BJJ black belt with deep roots in the sport.
Lineage and Background
Mike's BJJ journey took him to Rio de Janeiro, where he trained under Dennis Asche and Roberto "Gordo" Correa, one of the most respected names in jiu-jitsu. Gordo is widely credited with revolutionizing the half guard, and his approach to positional grappling remains central to how Mike teaches. Mike also trained under Mario Sperry, a Chute Boxe legend and one of the most technically complete grapplers of his generation.
Back in San Francisco, Mike became part of the Skrap Pack team through Gilbert Melendez and has trained in that lineage for over a decade. Gilbert, two-time Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and UFC veteran, awarded Mike his black belt. That trust reflects a shared standard for what jiu-jitsu should look like under pressure.
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu in San Francisco
Our no-gi jiu-jitsu classes in San Francisco are open to all experience levels and run four days a week in the Mission District. No-gi training removes the kimono and focuses on body control, wrestling-based takedowns, and submission grappling all practical for MMA, competition, and real-world application. Mike integrates concepts from catch wrestling and sambo to give students a complete, well-rounded game that works under pressure.
If you're looking for no-gi BJJ in San Francisco with serious coaching and a welcoming training environment, this is it.
Class Structure
The BJJ program at Skrap Pack Mission runs three formats: Fundamentals, No-Gi, and Open Mat.
Fundamentals classes are the right starting point for anyone new to jiu-jitsu. You'll build a solid base in positions, escapes, and submissions, taught in a way that prioritizes understanding over memorization. The focus is on developing movement patterns that hold up when you roll live.
No-Gi classes blend jiu-jitsu with wrestling and submission grappling influences that are practical for MMA, competition, and self-defense. Open to all levels.
Open Mat is unstructured training time: drill what you're working on, roll with training partners, ask questions. It's where the work from class becomes yours.
Who It's For
Beginners are welcome - no prior experience needed. If you've trained elsewhere and want to sharpen your game, you'll find high-level partners and coaching that meets you where you are. Competitors have everything they need to prepare for gi and no-gi tournaments.
